Were you sure of what career avenues you wanted to pursue after having served in the Airforce?
“After being an x-ray tech in the military, I knew that I wanted to stay in a hospital setting, but I just felt there was more out there for me.”
Was there a specific moment in your life in which you realized that nursing was your passion?
“When I was in the hospital having my son, I had great nursing care. I knew I wanted to do what they did. It was a life changing moment for me – I knew right then and there I wanted to be a nurse.”
Once you decided to attend college, how did you feel entering a large university system?
“I went to the big university and it was a big shell shock. I felt lost and didn’t feel as though I belonged. If I raised my hand to ask a question I was known as the blonde girl in the back of the room. After that moment I knew I needed something else.”
Coming to Nevada State College, how was your experience different?
“At Nevada State College immediately I felt welcomed. The teacher knew my name – I wasn’t just the blonde girl in the back row anymore, I was Danielle Brooks.”
How did the philosophy of NSC’s Nursing Program inspire you?
“The focus of the nursing program was on caring, and I knew I lived that every day of my life already. The fact that this was an emphasis in the curriculum, I just knew it was meant to be. We emphasis caring in our everyday practice, not just in the hospital, but in our lives as well.”
Share with us a little bit about your graduation experience.
“The day of my graduation from NSC was amazing. My son ran up to me and gave me the biggest hug he had ever given. He was so proud of his mommy and I knew that he would forever had that ingrained in his mind.”
Since graduation, how has your career in nursing been coming along?
“Now that I have graduated, I started my career here in Las Vegas at one of the local hospitals. Overall, I feel as though it has changed me as a person. Graduating from NSC really changed my life…I went from serving my country to now serving my community.
