Dr. Robin Herlands was a biology lover from a very young age. She read the Andromeda Strain and Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton and knew she wanted to be a scientist (she still loves these books and is sometimes teased for being a sci-fi junkie). After growing up in Virginia, she attended Haverford College, a small private liberal arts college in Pennsylvania. Here she fell in love with immunology (the study of how the immune system works) and field hockey.  She didn't like the colder winters, but loved the experience overall.  Afterwards, she went on to earn a PhD at Yale University, where winters were even colder and snowier.  Despite great efforts to move somewhere warmer, she got a Visiting Professor position at Mount Holyoke College, a small college in Massachusetts. Now, she is thrilled to be in Nevada, where she will never endure a blizzard again!  She teaches Immunology, Microbiology, Genetics and Evolution.  Dr. Herlands is very passionate about teaching, traveling, and politics. And she is hoping to get a pick-up field hockey game started in Nevada!
