Dr. Andy Kuniyuki currently serves as the Associate Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He received his B.S. in biology from the University of Hawai`i and his Ph.D. in genetics from the University of California. Dr. Kuniyuki crystallized his appreciation for the preeminence of biology starting with collecting new Hawaiian Drosophila species, postdoctoral research at Brookhaven National Laboratory, and through developing numerous labs employing monoclonal antibody, tissue culture, oligonucleotide and immunodiagnostic technologies.
Dr. Kuniyuki’s passion for teaching was inflamed deep within the cell blocks of San Quentin Prison where he taught genetics to a captured audience while completing his graduate degree at Berkeley. This reinforced his curiosity and exploration of nature and nurture that has expanded to and focused on consciousness as an emergent biological process with wisdom as a special phenotype. Dr. Kuniyuki invites students to join in this journey.
