- What do I do when the online registration system gives me the message that I do not meet course prerequisite(s) and after checking the prerequisite(s) in the current Nevada State College Catalog, I have determined that I do meet the prerequisite(s)?
You may have received this message if you took the course prerequisite(s) at another institution and transferred them to Nevada State College. If this is the case, you will need to submit to the School of Education an unofficial copy of your transcript, showing successful completion of the prerequisite(s), and course descriptions. If the School of Education determines that you have met the course prerequisite(s), then a Special Approval Registration form will be submitted to the Nevada State College Office of the Registrar on your behalf.
- I heard I have a Nevada State College email account. How do I activate my email?
All Business Administration students must activate their Nevada State College email addresses. The School of Education uses the Nevada State College email as the primary method for contacting students. Your email account can be activated online at https://secure.nsc.nevada.edu/swami/.
- Why do I have to take six (6) credits of Math, including Finite Math (MATH 132), when most other majors only require three (3) credits?
It prepares you for other courses in your major such as ECON 261 (Principles of Statistics), by giving you a solid foundation in math.
- When should I start taking classes that are part of the Business Core?
It is a good idea to start taking courses from the Non-Business and Pre-Business Core while taking courses within your Core Curriculum. However, remember to check the course catalog for prerequisites so that courses are taken in the proper order. For example, ACC 201 should come before ACC 202, ECON 102 before ECON 103 and COM 101 before COM 102, to name a few. In addition, it is highly recommended (although not mandatory) that students complete a college level math prior to taking any accounting courses.
- When can I start taking classes that are in my specific Business Administration major?
To begin taking classes in any Business Administration major, students must have completed the Pre-Business Core and have junior class standing.
- After completion of the Pre-Business Core, can I then pick and choose any classes within my major?
It is important to know that the Business Administration major is very prerequisite driven. That means there are many courses in the department that have prerequisites, so it is important to check the course catalog to make sure the appropriate prerequisite(s) have been completed before registering for any class. Some of the courses within the major with which students can start are listed below. (By completing the Pre-Business Core, the prerequisites for the following classes should have been completed.)
BLW 302- Legal Environment
FIN 301- Principles of Managerial Finance
IS 301- Management Information Systems
MGT 301- Principles of Management and Organizational Behavior
MKT 301- Marketing Management
- I know I am supposed to take the Community-Based Capstone Course in my senior year, but when should I take the Business Capstone Course?
It is highly recommended that students also take the Business Capstone during their junior or senior years.
